Specialized recall faulty forks

Specialized have recalled a range of mountain bikes and suspension forks because the air spring can fire itself out of the top of the fork cap.

The recall only effects bikes fitted with the Öhlins RXF 36 Air and RXF 34 Air, manufactured by Öhlins Racing AB.

The bike include some models of Enduro, Stumpjumper, Fuse, and Levo mountain bikes. The products were sold between January 2016 through September 2018.

Affected Öhlins branded forks were distributed as aftermarket equipment by Specialized in Australia.

The forks may contain a defect in the top cap which potentially affects safety.

The right-side top cap on some forks may not be adequately torqued, which in some cases, may lead to the top cap working itself free through riding.

There is risk of injury to the rider if the cap works itself free during riding, as the air cartridge may abruptly spring out of the stanchion tube.

Affected forks are black with “ÖHLINS” written on each of the fork lowers. “RXF36” or “RXF34” is written across the fork arch.

Consumers should immediately stop riding their bikes and take their forks to an authorised retailer for a free repair.
