Trek has recalled the Kickster children balance bike.
The pedal-less bike has a steerer tube clamp that can break, causing the handlebars to come off, possibly resulting in a fall or injury to a child.
The clamp that holds the steer tube in place may break when over-tightened, due to uncontrolled die temperature of the aluminium during the manufacturing process.
Consumers with affected Trek model bicycles should immediately cease use and take them to a Trek retailer for inspection and repair.
Affected bicycles will be fitted with replacement clamps that hold both the steer tube and seat post (the clamps are interchangeable).
The products were sold nationally by authorised Trek retailers between 21 September 2012 and 16 April 2019.
