Product Safety Australia has recalled a massive 38 bike models including bikes made by Avanti, Malvern Star, Raleigh and Diamond Back.

Each of the bikes fails to comply with the mandatory standard for the attachment of the front wheel with a quick-release skewer.

Product Safety Australia advises that the front wheels may become loose and fall out if the quick-release skewer is not installed and tightened correctly.

Riders on the models are at risk of crash and serious injury if the front wheel comes loose or falls out while the bicycle is moving.

Owners of the recalled models should stop riding their bikes immediately and contact Sheppard Cycles Australia on 1300 883 305 to arrange for a replacement skewer.

Sheppard Cycles is the distributor of the recalled brands. They were sold at dealers around Australia, at Big W stores and online between 1 Jul 2014 and 16 Nov 2023.

Owners of bicycles purchased at independent bicycle dealers are advised to contact Sheppard Cycles, which will send the replacement skewer to the independent dealer for installation.

Owners of bicycles purchased at Big W should also contact Sheppard Cycles, which will send the replacement skewer direct to the consumer.

A list of the recalled models and photographs of all the recalled bikes can be obtained here.

Shimano recalls 11-speed cranks https://bicyclenetwork.com.au/newsroom/2023/10/03/shimano-recalls-11-speed-cranks/ Tue, 03 Oct 2023 05:04:39 +0000 https://bicyclenetwork.com.au/?p=35405 Shimano has recalled certain cranksets on Dura-Ace and Ultegra models due to a fault that can cause the crank arm to separate from the main crank.

The post Shimano recalls 11-speed cranks appeared first on Bicycle Network.

]]>
Shimano has recalled cranksets on some Dura-Ace and Ultegra models due to a fault that can cause the crank arm to separate from the main crank.

The models were manufactured between 1 June 2012 and 30 June 2019. A two-letter manufacturing code is stamped on the inside of the crank arm.

The cranksets are of the Hollowtech design, in which components of the crank are bonded together.

Shimano says that the bonded crank parts can separate and break. “There is a risk of a fall or crash if the crank arm separates,” the company says.

“At the time of publishing, Shimano has received reports of 4519 incidents of cranksets separating, and six reported injuries, including bone fractures, joint displacement and lacerations.”

Consumers should not use a bike with a Shimano Ultegra or Dura-Ace crankset until they check whether theirs is an affected model. Instructions on how to check are on the Shimano website.

The following model series are subject to the recall:

  • Ultegra: FC-6800, FC-R8000
  • Dura-Ace: FC-9000, FC-R9100 and FC-R9100-P

The two-letter codes are: KF to KL, LA to LL, MA to ML, NA to NL, OA to OL, PA to PL, QA to QL, and RA to RF.

If you have an affected model, contact your nearest authorised Shimano dealer to arrange for the cranksets to be inspected. Any cranksets that fail the inspection process will be replaced free of charge.

For more information, consumers can contact Shimano on 1800 269 958 from 8am to 5pm AEST Monday to Friday, or online at https://bike.shimano.com/en‐AU/information/contact‐shimano.html

The post Trek recalls handlebar appeared first on Bicycle Network.

]]>
Trek has recalled bikes fitted with an integrated stem/handlebars as well the separately sold handlebar units because the bars can crack if overloaded.

Trek says if the base bar or stem/handlebars breaks, the rider could lose control of the bicycle and fall, leading to serious injury.

The base bar systems are used on Trek’s time trial and triathlon bikes as well as on integrated handlebar systems on road bikes designed for racing.

The systems are lighter and more aerodynamic and can integrate cable routing.

The base bar is on all model year 2022 Speed Concept SLR bicycles (SLR 9, SLR 9 eTap, SLR 7, SLR 7 eTap and SLR 6 eTap) and Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C stem/handlebars fitted on all model year 2021 (SLR 6, SLR 6 eTap, SLR 7, SLR 7 eTap, SLR 8, SLR 9 and SLR 9 eTap) and 2022 (SLR 6 eTap, SLR 7, SLR 7 eTap, SLR 9 and SLR 9 eTap) Emonda SLR bicycles

The stem/handlebars were also supplied as an aftermarket part (model years 2020, 2021 and 2022)

Riders should immediately stop using bicycles installed with the affected base bars and stem/handlebars.

Owners can contact an authorised Trek retailer to make an appointment for a replacement base bar or stem/handlebars, when available.

The products were sold nationally by authorised Trek retailers between 5 June 2020 and 7 June 2022.
