It is disappointing cycling and walking projects to help beat Hobart’s traffic congestion are not outlined in today’s City Deal announcement, Bicycle Network Tasmania spokesperson Alison Hetherington said today.
“Separated cycleways are being planned for and rolled out in other cities around Australia to help reduce traffic congestion and the same should go for Hobart.
“Investing in a separated cycleways network in Hobart and improving the Tasman Bridge for cycling and walking would go a long way to giving people transport options other than driving.
“The state government has promised only $2 million over four years in matched funding for cycling networks in greater Hobart. This is not enough to get a good quality, all-abilities network in place," Ms Hetherington said.
