Thousands of riders of all ages and abilities will set off from Robe, South Australia on Saturday for the longest and greatest Great Vic Bike Ride ever.
Saturday will mark the start of a ten-day, 680 kilometre pedal powered journey which will challenge and inspire riders and spectators alike.
With team and volunteers arriving in Robe on Thursday, the mass of riders are expected to arrive on Friday in readiness for the first leg - an 86km ride to Millicent.
Rebecca Lane, Bicycle Network General Manager – Events, said: “It’s our biggest ever push into South Australia and the Limestone Coast will be a feature”.
In Victoria, riders will travel through the Shipwreck Coast, the Otway Ranges and along the world-famous Great Ocean Road, taking in some of Victoria’s most breathtaking scenery.
“It’s going to be an amazing adventure for all 4,000 bike riders. Behind the scenes there are 350 volunteers and 150 support staff, as well as the local communities, councils and authorities who all play a vital part in creating one of the world’s great bike rides,” Ms Lane added
The participants have come from all over Australia, as well as overseas. Ages range from under 10 to 86 years young.
Organised by Bicycle Network, the ten-day event starts in South Australia’s favourite seaside town of Robe with overnight stops at: Robe, Millicent, Mount Gambier, Portland, Port Fairy (2 nights), Peterborough, Beech Forest, Deans Marsh and with a finish in Torquay.
