Riders along the Moonee Ponds Creek near the Moonee Valley Racecourse will face a detour this week on Friday 14 August.
There are a number of pits located on the trail between Evans Street and Dean Street that are deteriorating and in need of replacement.
The detour for downstream riders will start at Fanny Reserve and take Fanny Street, Wilson Street, McPherson Street and Dean Street.
See detour mapThere will be traffic management in place with extensive signing along the route.
The project should be completed in one day, weather permitting.
The pits have been deteriorating for some time and as they are located right in the path of riders they are at risk of becoming a hazard.
The pits house communications assets associated with the adjacent CityLink.
CityLink contractors will rebuild the pits, fit them with new surrounds and pit covers, and ensure they are flush with the surface and smooth for riders.
Small excavating machinery will be needed, resulting in vehicles using the path during working hours.
The use of rapid-setting concrete should mean that the closure will only be in place for one day.
