The State Government has chipped in a million dollars towards a new section of the Princes Highway Trail through Officer in Melbourne’s eastern fringes.
Cardinia Shire has matched the contribution from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund to build the 2.6km section.
The project will consist of a sealed shared path from Fairweather Parade to Heatherbrae Recreation Reserve.
The council says the new trail will provide the fast-growing local community with improved access to facilities, and provide a new option for outdoor activity such as walking and cycling.
Once completed the Princes Highway Trail will extend 13 km from Beaconsfield to Racecourse Road in Pakenham.
The Trail is part of the major strategic cycling corridor to Melbourne south-east.
Planning is underway with construction expected to start by the end of 2020.
There will be challenges with this new section. Numerous commercial and industrial properties will have driveways across the trail that will require careful design at the crossings.
