Wagga's bike scene just got a little more wicked with the completion of a 353-metre long pump track at Gobbagombalin Park in the city's north.
It has been designed with all types of riders in mind and can be tackled in different ways by different riders, from three-year-olds on balance bikes to teenage shredders.
The latter, students from local school Riverina Anglican College, were consulted on the design of the track and were able to get in four table top jumps, nine berms, two gap jumps and one set of rollers.
Work began around a month ago in the second week of August, with the track made from 350 tonnes of subsoil clay loam, sourced from the site of a new primary school being built in Estella.
“In a first for Wagga Wagga, rather than using a soft rock road base, this track has a hard, compacted earth finish,” said Wagga Wagga Parks & Recreation Assets Officer Rob Owers.
“We’ve also planted 200 trees, shrubs and native grasses to form little garden beds near the adjacent corners of the track to give it definition and to stop riders cutting corners and instead stay on the track."
“It has a concrete start pad which has some elevation, so the kids can drop into the start of the track and have a bit of speed for the first set of jumps."
The track has been added to the Trailforks website and app for riders to search, rate and review. It is listed on Trailforks as Gobba Jump Pump Track.
