Our Seniors Week activities this year include two free social rides and an online forum all about e-bikes to help more people stay riding for longer.
E-bikes are for Everyone
This 1.5 hour online forum on Monday 12 October will start with a presentation on the different types of e-bikes available, choosing the best type of e-bike for your needs, features to look for and exactly why they are so easy to use for everyday transport or to just go for a ride.
The 10.30 am forum will be followed by a question and answer session in which you can ask experienced e-bike riders all about their bikes and experiences.
The forum will be held on Zoom so all you have to do is click on the link on the day. Please RSVP online through the RidewithGPS event, which will also provide you with the Zoom link.
E-bike Coffee Club goes to Moonah
Our southern social ride on Wednesday 14 October will head out to Moonah from Hobart, with coffee as the goal but enjoying the journey on e-bikes.
Meet at the Cenotaph car park at 9.45 am for a scenic tour through Lutana, Goodwood and GASP in Montrose using the Intercity Cycleway and quieter suburban roads.
The ride is all about showing you the different routes you can take through the northern suburbs and giving you the chance to talk to other e-bike riders. If you don’t have an e-bike but are thinking about getting one you could hire one for this ride. Try Hobart Bike Hire or Roll Cycles for a day’s hire.
RSVP online to ride leader Phillip Jenkins in case of cancellation.
Splash to the Bluff
The Splash to the Bluff ride is always popular and suitable for anyone who can ride a bike but may not be super confident.
There will be experienced riders to help less confident riders, as well as a bike mechanic to make sure your bike has the basics in good working order.
The 7 km ride takes the shared path from the Devonport Aquatic Centre to Mersey Bluff and for those who are keen we can ride on to the Spirit of the Sea Statue which makes it 9 km.
To come along meet at the Aquatic Centre car park on Saturday 17 October at 10.15 am, there’s also the chance to have a coffee at Drift Café.
Please RSVP online in case the ride has to be cancelled.

COVID-19 guidelines
Our social rides leaders are following a new set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:
- Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
- Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
- Ride leaders will have sanitiser on hand in case of needing to touch bikes or riders.
- People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose.
