As ballots start to reach mailboxes for this year’s local government elections, Bicycle Network is calling on Victorians to help elect candidates that support people-friendly streets.
Nearly all bike trips, whether for transport and recreation, start on local streets, which means that local government elections present a unique opportunity to shape the leadership and future of the neighbourhoods we live, work and ride in.
We want to see the election of Councillors across Victoria that support initiatives and infrastructure that encourages bike riding, creates liveable neighbourhoods and helps local businesses recover from the economic impacts of COVID.
We’ve spent the past month working with local bicycle user groups, local candidates and members in our community to collect candidate positions on active transport and recreation.
Bicycle Network would like to specifically thank Boroondara BUG, Darebin BUG, Hume City BUG, Moreland BUG, Port Phillip BUG, Glen Eira BUG, BrimBUG and all Bicycle Network members who actively pursued local candidate statements and shared them with us.
Our platform was open to any candidates and all responses received are now published on our website.
As of Wednesday 7 October, we received 165 candidates statements from across 19 council areas.

General candidate statements are also available on the VEC website.

Ballot papers aren't due until 23 October, so if your council or candidates aren't on our tracker, there's still time to ask.
Key dates:
- 6-8 Oct - ballots mailed out to enrolled voters (All councils will have elections except Casey City Council, South Gippsland Shire Council and Whittlesea City Council)
- Friday 23 October - completed ballot papers must be posted before 6 pm on Friday 23 October for your vote to count.
