The Victorian Government is asking bike riders to contribute ideas to the plan for the Shrine to Sea trail project.
The project has moved to the masterplan stage to identify opportunities offered by concept which envisages a bike and pedestrian boulevard from St Kilda Road at the Domain through South Melbourne and Albert Park to the beach at Beaconsfield Parade.
An initial $13M funding for the project was announced in 2018, and has proceeded in fits and starts since that time.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has became the lead agency for Shrine to Sea, and it is working closely with the City of Port Phillip, Parks Victoria and the Department of Transport on the development.
DWELP says: "The Shrine to Sea project will focus on creating safe, accessible and usable spaces for both locals and visitors. The boulevard will provide links and connections for people walking and bike riding through this part of Melbourne, as well as helping to celebrate local histories and stories.
"To guide the masterplan design process we are seeking your initial input about what you currently enjoy about the Shrine to Sea area as well as suggestions on what you would like to see along a new boulevard,” the Department says.
You can contribute your ideas for the project here.
The Department says this is the first online consultation for the Shrine to Sea project and there will be further opportunities to share your views as the project progresses.
The consultation report will be available around the end of this year, with the release of a draft masterplan in late 2021.
The final masterplan should be available in early 2022, with detailed design, planning approvals and delivery of works by early 2022 - late 2023.
