Cycling along one popular stretch of Beach Road just got safer for riders in Batemans Bay, with a regional first dedicated cycle lane between popular beachside villages of Batehaven and Surf Beach.
Utilising sealed road shoulders, four kilometres of bike lane now links Batehaven with Casey Beach, and further markers in parking lanes permit on-road cycling from Casey Beach to Surf Beach.
Council's director of infrastructure Warren Sharpe said: "The new line marking and signage allows bike riders to safely cycle between existing shared pathways around Batehaven, Caseys Beach and Surf Beach, and links them to the shared pathway directly into Batemans Bay CBD.
"This cycling facility is the first of its kind in regional NSW, and we thank Bega MP Andrew Constance and the NSW Government for funding the initiative in Eurobodalla."
The project was fast-tracked by state government initiatives to stimulate transport alternatives in response to the pandemic, and it is hoped that this safety improvement will attract more keen riders to the coastal stretch of road, as well as encourage more short active trips between the beach townships.
