In a departure from our most of our usual social rides, the New Norfolk New Fork ride on Sunday 22 November is a more challenging 75 km round trip, with a stop for lunch.
Leaving from the Cenotaph car park off McVilly Drive, Hobart, at 10 am, riders are asked to be there by 9.45 am for the ride briefing before heading up the Intercity Cycleway to warm up your legs.
From the end of the cycleway the group will head to Granton then take country roads to Glen Lusk, which is near the peak of the climb of 437 metres, before dropping down through Molesworth and the Lyell Highway into New Norfolk for lunch.
The return leg will be easier on the thighs, heading over the River Derwent to the northern bank to ride along Boyer Road to Granton where the group will roll through Austins Ferry back to the Intercity Cycleway for arrival back to the Cenotaph at around 4 pm.
Please RSVP if you’d like to come along as it will be cancelled if the weather is looking uncomfortable.
Tunnels and Bridges
This is an oldie but a goodie, the 25 km Tunnels and Bridges ride on Saturday 28 November will take the Intercity Cycleway out to Montrose before branching off onto paths and quiet streets for the return.
It’s a great route to build up your riding confidence but will also be an eye-opener for more experienced cyclists who may not be aware of the paths and underpasses that provide an alternative to busy roads on the river side of the cycleway.
The group will meet at 9.15 am at the Cenotaph car park off McVilly Drive, Hobart, and should return about 12.15 pm and there will be a coffee stop along the way so you can chat to others in the group.
Please RSVP online in case the ride get cancelled because of forecast poor weather.
Kangaroo Bay & Local Bush Tracks
Hobart’s eastern shore abounds with pockets of bushland and this 16 km ride on Sunday 29 November will take you to three hilltops, each with superb views.
The 2.5-hour ride will explore local bike and bush tracks linking Waverley Flora Park, Rose Bay Hill and Rosny Hill. It’s suitable for hybrid, mountain and tough e-bikes and while the pace will be cruisy there are few hills and rough tracks to tackle.
There will be a coffee stop at Bellerive Village at the end of the ride for those up for a chat.
Please RSVP online as the ride will be cancelled if it’s too windy/rainy. https://ridewithgps.com/events/134794-kangaroo-bay-and-local-bush-tracks
Meet at the Kangaroo car park at 8.45 am in Rosny, ready for 9 am departure.
Queens View E-bike Coffee Cruise
This is an easy 9 km ride exploring the Queens Domain at a relaxed pace, with a coffee stop along the way on Thursday 3 December.
Meet at Brooke Street Pier on Hobart’s waterfront at 9.45 am for the pre-ride briefing before the group heads along the waterfront and cycleway to the Remembrance Bridge to access the Domain.
On the Domain you’ll take the Joggers Loop circuit and head back along the Soldiers Walk before heading back into the city via the new Rose Garden Bridge.
This is a great chance to explore areas you may not have ridden and talk to other e-bike riders about their experiences.
Please RSVP online in case the ride is cancelled due to poor weather.

COVID-19 guidelines
Our social rides leaders are following a new set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:
- Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
- Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
- Ride leaders will have sanitiser on hand in case of needing to touch bikes or riders.
- People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose.
