Cringila Hills Masterplan Wollongong City Council
Wollongong's MTB masterplan takes shape

Wollongong City Council has accepted a tender to begin work on the Cringila Hills Masterplan, with the initial planning phase focusing on 11.5km of mountain bike trails and 3.1km of walking trails.

This is the first stage of the Cringila Hills Masterplan, which is set to include a pump track, mountain bike skills track, playground, car parking and other associated facilities supporting the use of the site in the suburb to the south of central Wollongong.

Following a council meeting on Monday this week, Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said:

"I know there are going to be some very happy people in our community to know that this is moving forward.

“Ever since Council adopted the Masterplan for the site, we’ve had people keen to see work get underway. Well, we’re delivering on that promise. Between now and the end of the year, the design work will be a key focus of Council and then early next year work will begin on site.

“It's an exciting time for the area, over the coming months the trails will be brought to life, surrounded by a wonderful greenspace, for riders of all levels to enjoy.’’

This active transport transformation of the Cringila Hills Recreation Reserve is hoped to give locals a new place to enjoy the outdoors, as well as elevate Wollongong’s reputation as a cycling destination, with potential to deliver a boost to the local visitor economy – as referenced in the Wollongong Cycling Strategy 2030.

“This is a fantastic example of Council developing a vacant site into a multi-purpose space that will provide outdoor recreational opportunities for many people within our community and beyond.

“The Cringila Hills project is part of a greater activation plan to provide diverse recreational and social opportunities for the people of Wollongong,” Cr Bradbery said.

Construction on the bike trails is set to begin early next year.
