The Fairfield pipe bridge crossing the Yarra River will be closed during off-peak hours next week as work is done to install a non-slip coating to the bridge.
Work is being done by Yarra Valley Water from Monday 23 November to Friday 27 November. Closures will be in place from 9:00am to 3:00pm, so people heading for a morning or evening ride in the area will still be able to use the bridge.
Signage is being installed on both the Fairfield Boathouse and Yarra Boulevard approaches to stop people making their way down the trails to the bridge, only to have to turn around and go back.
The special coating being applied to the bridge will reduce the risk of slipping and be extra helpful for riders in cleats – people on bikes are of course expected to dismount when crossing the pipe bridge.
