The popular bike lane along Queensberry Street in Carlton, just north of the city, will be disrupted for the next couple of months by a water main renewal project.
City West Water contractors have started work on the mains between Swanston and Lygon Streets that have reached the end of their operational life.
The bike lane on the south side of the street—heading east to west—will be impacted.
Traffic management will be in place to guide riders around the work sites during working hours 7am-5pm Monday to Friday.
Once the mains have been renewed the road will be reinstated over several days in March and new bike lane treatments will be applied.
In the future, following the completion of the Metro Tunnel project, the Queensberry Street bike route is expected to be significantly upgraded.
