A raft of new bike infrastructure is ready to roll out across the City of Moreland with separated lanes on the way for vital routes across the municipality.
Kent and Northumberland Roads in Pascoe Vale, along with Dawson Street in Brunswick, will trial separated lanes with work starting next month and progressing during the first half of the year.
There will be improvements to Albion Street between Sydney Road and the railway line and to sections of Albert and Victoria Streets where the East Brunswick shimmy connects through Fleming Park.
The projects have been in the medium term delivery pipeline but have accelerated as a COVID response, boosted by a significant budget uplift.
Moreland City has opened a feedback channel on the project seeking comments from riders. The projects are described in detail.
Give Feedback"These projects are being delivered as trials and using materials that can be modified or removed depending on the outcomes of the trials, which are expected to run up to two years,” the Council says.
"We are inviting you to share your feedback and experiences of walking and cycling in Moreland using our new separated bike lanes and shared zones.
"Your feedback will help us to monitor the trials and make adjustments or improvements before any permanent decisions are made.”
The projects are part of a larger suite of pedestrian and cycling improvements being pursued around Moreland, including new zebra crossings, pedestrian thresholds, bicycle lanes, shared zones, reduced speeds on residential streets, and turn bans at key intersections on tram corridors.
"Creating walkable and bikeable neighbourhoods encourages healthy and active lifestyles, builds community connections, promotes overall health and wellbeing in our community and supports local businesses through improved access to local amenities,” the City says.
