Noosa parade upgrade
Noosa Parade upgrade gets the go-ahead

A key stretch of Noosa Parade is set for a major upgrade with the State Government's Cycle Network Local Government Grants program committing $2.3 million toward the project.

The 1.2 kilometre stretch between the Munna Point Bridge and the Garth Prowd Bridge is one of Noosa's busiest routes for bikes, and a key connection to the main tourist precinct.

Mayor Clare Stewart said “new shared pathways and on-road bike lanes will improve safety and access for pedestrians and bike riders, with a reduction of the speed limit to 40km/h to make it safer for all road users.

“New trees and landscaping works will also be included to provide more shade and visual appeal.”

The major upgrade plans include:
  • providing dedicated and continuous on-road cycle lanes in both directions
  • reducing the speed limit to 40km/h
  • upgrading the northern pathway to 2.5m wide and 3m wide where possible
  • upgrading the southern pathway to 1.5m wide
  • providing eight mid-block pedestrian refuges
  • installing improved LED lighting

You can learn more about the plans at Your Say Noosa. Consultation on the project is now closed, but you can keep up to date with the latest information from the council as it is released.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey praised the investment in bike riding, stating:

"It's so positive to see a significant increase in the use of dedicated walking and cycling facilities, and we know that, on average, every dollar we invest in cycling infrastructure will return nearly five dollars in economic benefit to Queensland with improved health outcomes, reduced traffic congestion, and lower transport costs."

Construction is set to commence early next year, and the council’s project team are currently preparing the final layouts and drawings to release to the public.
