New path reaches to Skye

A new shared path will be provided along Hall Road between Skye and Cranbourne West in Melbourne’s outer south east.

The east-west connection will be welcome in a region where bike infrastructure is currently sparse.

Fortunately, new subdivisions are coming with ridable environments and now the government is filling in gaps along the arterials during road upgrades.

The Hall Road upgrade is now out for public consultation and feedback is sought.

Hall Road is being upgraded between McCormicks Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road to improve safety, traffic flow and journey reliability.

The project will build a new walking and cycling path along sections of Hall Road from McCormicks Road to Bradman Drive, where it will connect to the existing walking and cycling path between Bradman Drive and Cranbourne-Frankston Road.

It will also involve the installation of centre median and kerb side safety barriers along sections of the road as well as additional streetlights to improve safety.

While a welcome development, we notice one blemish: the entry/exit to the McDonald and service station near Western Port Highway appears to give priority to traffic entering and leaving the property rather than bikes and pedestrians on the shared path.

This is the wrong way around as shared paths are required to have priority over driveways and local roads.

The full length of Hall Road will have two lanes in each direction once the extra lanes are added between McCormicks Road and Western Port Highway.

There will be five intersection upgrades to improve traffic flow and access to local facilities and streets through dedicated turning lanes.
