Detour on Main Yarra Trail

Update 20/05/2021: Works will now finish Wednesday 26 May 2021.

Work starts this week to stabilise the banks of a section of the Yarra River in Abbotsford.

The trail will be closed through the work area near Dights Falls, with a detour in place via Trenerry Crescent.

The work begins Tuesday 4 May and is expected to take about two weeks through to 18 May, maybe less, depending on weather.

The work involves rock beaching along the river bank to restabilise the Yarra River embankment where significant erosion points have emerged.

Rectifying any erosion points along the waterway in the Dights Falls area will improve fish passage at the waterway.

The works will also ensure the banks are protected from encroachment from erosion, remain stable and can host walkers and bikes along the trail for many years to come.

A drainage issue at the Turner Street outfall will also be attended to.

Machinery will be used to reshape the embankment, including backfilling the erosion points that have formed over the last 24 months.
