Here are some of their stories…

Luke’s story

In the middle of his preparation for Peaks Challenge Cradle Mountain, Luke was riding home from a training ride in the Dandenong Ranges when he lost control on a descent and broke his collarbone.

With the help of Bicycle Network, Luke was able to focus on his recovery and achieve his goal.

Cath’s story

A beautiful day of riding in the Bunyip State Park took a turn when Cath hit a rock on a descent. It left her with a major shoulder injury that required surgery and a long rehabilitation process. Bicycle Network was able to minimise the financial stress and allow Cath to focus on her recovery.

Pavel and Rowan’s stories

Two riders, two crashes, 20 years apart – same lawyer, same result.

When Pavel and Rowan came off their bikes without a collision, they both failed to have a compensation claim approved. Luckily their Bicycle Network membership connected them with Maurice Blackburn who were able to successfully appeal the denial and helped Pavel and Rowan obtain valuable compensation.

Frank’s story

If you’ve ridden a bike around Melbourne, there’s a fair chance you’ll know Frank, or at least know someone that does. For even the most experienced riders sometimes things don’t go to plan.

Here’s his story:

“I was mountain biking with a few friends after work when I found myself going over the bars and landed straight on my head, knocking out my 2 front teeth. I was taken to hospital and spent four months in a halo and neck brace.

I had private health insurance, income protection and other various insurances, so I was fine when it came to income. However, nothing covered me for dental.

That’s when I gave Bicycle Network a ring, and to my surprise and relief they covered up to $7,500, and all they asked for was the claim form from the dentist. Not only that, they ask me if I needed assistance with any other expenses, like medical, income protection and homecare.

I cannot pay enough praise to Bicycle Network. They are genuinely concerned in your well-being.”

Alison’s story

Alison had a nasty fall that kept her off her feet for months. Luckily, her membership covered transport to and from rehab appointments as well as help around the home, taking the stress off her and her family.

Here’s her story:

“I was riding around the river on my new hybrid bike in Geelong when we decided to go up to have a look at the local silo art. I’m usually a road cyclist, so these bike tracks were new to me. As I crossed over some disused rail lines intersecting the path, my back tyre slipped and I fell onto to the concrete. I knew immediately that I had a serious injury. An ambulance trip to the local emergency department revealed a fractured pelvis…two fractures in fact.

Since this time my Bicycle Network insurance has proved invaluable. I was unable to drive for 6 weeks, but was able to utilise Ubers to get to all my medical and rehab appointments. I haven’t been able to carry out housework, gardening or walking the dog. Bicycle Network provided assistance with all of these. The coverage of 85% of my rehab activities has allowed me to be able to simply focus on getting better.

Without the assistance of the Bicycle Network insurance policy my recovery would have involved a huge amount of stress for both myself and my family. The stress around managing housework, garden maintenance and even dog walking was totally avoided all due to the insurance policy. It’s a must for all riders.”
