Parks Victoria has opened consultation on a number of new regional parks that could host attractive new trails for riders and walkers.
The government is planning 1,000 hectares of new and improved parks in Melbourne’s western and south-eastern suburbs.
New parks will be created at Clyde, Werribee and Deanside, while two parks in Werribee and Melton South will be improved.
Make sure you have your say about how important trails are to your enjoyment of park environments at engage.vic.gov.au/north-west-regional-parks.
The new Kororoit Creek Regional Park in Deanside is located to the west of Caroline Springs and will allow for greater community interaction and enjoyment of the Kororoit Creek and remnant Victorian volcanic grasslands.
There will eventually be a trail all the way along the Kororoit Creek from the sea at Altona to this new park, so it is important that trails are part of the new park plan.
The Werribee Township Regional Park is planned to have trails on both sides of the Werribee River and it will be important that there are good connections to the local trails network.
The 120 hectare regional park in Clyde will be created on Ballarto Road beside a new sports precinct. Together the regional park, sports precinct and adjacent drainage basin will create a large community space three times bigger than the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.
This park could have its own wonderful trails network with linked circuits.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said: “This is an important milestone for people in Melbourne’s growing western and south eastern suburbs, and I urge everyone who is looking forward to these parks to have their say on what they will look like.”
“These parks will make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of people in these communities – providing green open space for people to stretch the legs, clear the head and catch up with friends.”
