Australia's largest combined BMX and mountain biking hub is coming to life in the Western Sydney Parklands.
The new $13.5 million, 86-hectare Wylde BMX and Mountain Bike Facility is being delivered by the NSW Government and Liverpool City Council and will cater for riders of all ages and abilities.
Building on the existing Wylde MTB trail which attracts more than 30,000 visitors annually, the new facility will include the biggest pump track in the Southern Hemisphere and is expected to draw riders from all over Sydney and around Australia.
As well as accommodating for the growing number of keen riders in Western Sydney, the upgraded bike hub is expected to host national competitions and cement the region as a mecca for people who ride bikes.
Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance sees the new facility is a win for everyone in the community.
“When plans for the M12 were drawn up it created an opportunity to build a bigger and better Wylde facility and a new adventure precinct within the parklands,” Mr Constance said.
“Drivers will be getting better road connections to Western Sydney Airport and park users will be getting the best community bike facility in the country.”
Liverpool City Council Mayor Wendy Waller said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Greater Sydney Parklands on this wonderful new community asset, which will allow the return of BMX racing to Liverpool following the closure of the Powell Park track in 2016."
The new Wylde BMX and Mountain Bike Facility is expected to be fully opened to the public by December 2021.
The first five new mountain bike trails will be open to ride from this Saturday 3 July, weather permitting.
