Win with Womens Health Week
Women’s Health Week kicked off on Monday and we’ve got a special offer to win a $4495 e-bike from Cargocycles, just by posting a photo of yourself riding your bike and tagging @bicycle_network with #WomensHealthWeek and telling us why you ride.
We had a small but sweet ride from Cornelian Bay to MONA on Monday to kick off the week and are looking forward to seeing Tassie photos flood the competition!

Try an e-bike at Clarence Climate Expo
Our e-bike volunteers are heading to the Clarence Climate Expo on Saturday 18 September to give people the chance to try an e-bike and ask questions between 11 am and 2 pm.
Ride leader Brian will take people out on short 2.7 km loop from the expo every half hour starting at 11.30 am and the last ride at 1.30 pm so they can experience the power of the bikes on a hill.
Other e-bike riders will be on hand to answer questions at the Citywide Church, 400 Cambridge Road, Mornington.
TBUG looking for cycling route signage feedback
The Tamar Bicycle Users Group is working with the Meander Valley and Northern Midlands Council to install route signs in the popular cycling area bounded by Longford, Westbury, Blackwood Creek and Cressy.
They are asking riders to fill out a survey to help them determine a system that would work, although they would like to base it on the Dutch system that gives routes a number. Any questions, contact TBUG at contactus@tbug.org.au
Pollie cycleway sighting
We wish all politicians were as eager to get on a bike as the Legislative Council’s Member for Elwick, Josh Willie. We met with him last month to talk about cycling issues, including the benefits of e-bikes, and a few weeks later he’d taken our advice and bought an e-bike to get to meetings.
With an office next to the Intercity Cycleway it makes so much sense for him to ride around Glenorchy and into Parliament House.
New kunanyi/Mt Wellington MTB trails get green light
New MTB trails are coming to kunanyi/Mt Wellington after City of Hobart council approval on Monday night.
Three new trails will be built and an existing trail improved to fill the gap between Bracken Lane Fire Trail, North-South Track, Main Fire Trail and Middle Island Fire Trail.

Girls need support stay shredding
The Menzies Institute’s Girls in Action Sport study has finished, finding that girls need a few simple things to keep shredding during their teens over and above skills training, access to equipment and early engagement.
Some of the recommendations for keeping girls on their bikes, surfboards and skateboards include:
- Female role models
- Increased media coverage of girls in action sport
- Family support and participation
- Girl-only events and groups
- Girls toilets at training and event venues
- Encourage sporting groups to measure and report on gender equality
