Further information has been released regarding the fatal hit and run in Delacombe last Thursday.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old father David Thomson, who was riding his bike to work when struck by a person driving a silver sports car on Brazenor Street at around 5.30am on Thursday 21 October.
The driver of the car then inexplicably fled the scene, and video footage has since emerged of the driver fleeing down a neighborhood street with a damaged bonnet and windscreen.
The family of Mr Thomson made an emotional appeal for information this afternoon, in a bid to help investigators catch the person they labelled a 'coward' for leaving their father to die on the road.
Daughter Sophie is a serving member of the Victorian Police, who tragically attended the scene of her father's death, inadvertently.
Five days on from incident, police are yet to make any arrests and are desperate for help from the public to identify the driver and the the car involved.
Detective Senior Constable Sandro Lombardi said it is evident from the CCTV footage that the bonnet and the windscreen of the sports car are damaged and there was no way the driver would not know he had hit Mr Thomson head-on.
He called for the driver to come forward and said anybody shielding him owed it to the family and the community to give the information.
Bicycle Network would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Thomson family and all of those impacted. All Australian's should be able to ride a bicycle to work without fear of being struck by somebody driving a vehicle; not to mention the pure heartlessness of fleeing the scene of the crime.
