Our social rides program will have more northern rides on offer thanks to the Tamar Bicycle User Group’s (TBUG) decision to affiliate with Bicycle Network.
The new relationship means all TBUG’s regular and event rides will now appear in our calendar: https://ridewithgps.com/organizations/2014-bicycle-network-tasmania/events
This includes their regular rides on a Wednesday morning and on Thursday evenings during daylight savings, as well as one-off rides on weekends and other times during the week. TBUG also hosts annual events like Ride2Work Day breakfast, winter solstice ride, Bike Week night ride and the Tamar Valley Cycle Challenge community ride.
TBUG social ride leaders have received the same skills training as our existing social ride leaders, so the changeover is relatively seamless.
Regular TBUG riders won’t notice much difference but for Bicycle Network members it means we can attend supportive group rides in Launceston and surrounds on top of the existing north-west and southern rides.
If you want to join one of the northern social rides just RSVP via the events pages and turn up at the nominated meeting place.
There are Wednesday morning rides planned for most weeks in February and March, each of them in the 40–48 km range leaving from Rosevears, Longford, Carrick, Cressy, Gravelly Beach and Westbury. While the Thursday evening rides are 10 km and take in the trails around Launceston. Keep an eye on our events listing for upcoming rides.
As with all our social rides, please don’t come if you are showing any COVID-19 symptoms or are in isolation or quarantine, keep your distance from other riders, sanitise, and have a mask ready if you stop for coffee or snack.
Affiliated cycling groups
Bicycle Network offers affiliation for recreational cycling groups around the country.
It means that when cycling group members join Bicycle Network through their group, some of their membership fee goes back to the support the club/BUG.
TBUG members will also get the benefit of a trial Bicycle Network membership to decide whether they want to join up.
If you are already a Bicycle Network member but would like to be a member through TBUG, you can update your membership by calling 1800 639 634 or sending an email.
