Tassie Bike News Bites
Algona Road now that little greater

Kudos to State Roads for changing over dangerous grates on Algona Rd when notified by one of our members.

If you see grates that pose a danger to riders with thin tyres take a photo and email to the correct owner or just use Snap Send Solve.

Most road managers will replace them if notified they are a danger – note that some are easier to replace than others with many older grates needing to be made to order.

Central Coast to get next Back on your Bike sessions

Watch out Huonville, two locals now have more riding skills and confidence to get back on their bikes following our free Back on your Bike sessions last weekend.

The next Back on your bike sessions are scheduled for the Central Coast in late February.

Get in now to book your place at Ulverstone, Turners Beach, Penguin or Sulphur Creek: www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/back-on-your-bike/

Speak up for Kentish and Latrobe safety campaign

Kentish Council and Latrobe Council are developing a road safety campaign targetting people who ride and drive.

Step one in the campaign is a survey of people's attitudes and behaviours: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KPSLWLR.

They'll use the survey results to shape their education campaign, make sure your views are heard!

Hobart ferry trial extended

Good news for users of the Hobart–Bellerive ferry service with the government’s announcement it would continue funding the service once the one-year trial finishes in August this year.

No news yet though on whether bike riders and Greencard owners will be able to keep using the ferry for free.

A review of the service will be undertaken at the end of the one-year trial which may then recommend a plan for future ports.

Have your say on active ageing

COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania is running a survey on what people want as part of the government's new Active Ageing strategy.

We think staying active and healthy are pretty important as we get older.

When you have good infrastructure older people will ride more often. In The Netherlands the 65-75 year-olds ride more than any other adult age group.

You can fill out the survey at cotatas.org.au/information/consultation and there will be in person forums later in the year.

New Norfolk charity ride opens

If you are after a riding challenge that gives back to the community, check out Freedom Ride out of New Norfolk on 19 March.

Entry is by fundraising - minimum $200 - and you have the choice of 20, 42 or 100 km routes.

Money raised helps youth homelessness and addiction programs: https://www.freedomride.org.au/

Report poor e-scooter parking

We're still seeing some e-scooters being parked on shared paths in Hobart and Launceston, blocking access or making it difficult for people riding.

You can email the operators directly to report bad parking, which they can then incorporate into their "geofencing" which prevents e-scooters being parked in certain locations.
