The major operation replacing trains with buses will continue have a major impact on bike routes around Caulfield station during March.
The installation of a new hi-tech signalling system for the Metro Tunnel project will close the line between Caulfield and Westall stations.
As a result, temporary pick-up zones for the buses have been created at the stations.
And a significant numbers of buses will be running on streets near the rail corridor.
The operation will be underway on these dates:
- Sunday 27 February – Friday 4 March 2022
- Sunday 6 March – Wednesday 9 March 2022
- Sunday 13 March – Tuesday 15 March 2022
- Sunday 20 March – Friday 25 March 2022
The biggest impact may be at Caulfield. In Normanby Road the shared bike lane / bus lane outside the station on the south side will be occupied by an extensive pick-up and drop-off zones while there will be similar facilities on Sir John Monash Drive on the northern side.
These locations will be likely congested with many vehicle and people movements, so riders will need to take care.
There will be extensive traffic management around the Caulfield Station precinct.
Because the Djerring Trail runs in the rail corridor between Westall and Caulfield, riders are not likely to be impacted at the other closed stations, nor by the additional buses on local streets.
