Work has started on the upgrade of the shared path along Belgrave-Hallam Road in Narre Warren North.
As a consequence, the existing trail is closed, with a detour via local streets.
The upgrade is part of a larger project to upgrade a section of Narre Warren Road North, part of the suburban roads upgrade project.
The shared walking and biking path will be closed between Fox and Heatherton Roads. Riders will need to detour via Randle Court and Heatherton Road.
Contractors will also close the footpath on the western side of Narre Warren North Road between Ernst Wanke Road and the Bupa Aged Care facility for one week in early February while power poles are relocated.
Bike riders and pedestrians can use the footpath on the eastern side of the road while the footpath is closed.
Other major works to upgrade the road are also underway, including a start to building the foundations of the new northbound lanes along Narre Warren North Road and relocating utility services.
Most works will take place between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm Saturdays.
The eastbound lanes at the intersection of Belgrave-Hallam and Heatherton roads will be closed until early April to build the new dedicated right turn lane.
Access homes and businesses like Shell Coles Express and The Squatting Frog Plant Nursery and Café will be available during this time.
