Help refine Geelong's Green Spine
Help refine Geelong's Green Spine

The next phase of Geelong's Green Spine Project plans are open for community consultation until Sunday 6 March, with information sessions on Tuesday 1 March next week.

The much anticipated project seems to be back on track, after opening back in June 2018 and experiencing a few hiccups along the way.

The Green Spine Project aims to transform central Geelong with a vibrant linear park along the length of Malop Street, connecting the Geelong Station precinct, Johnstone Park and Eastern Park and creating central destination.

The project provides the opportunity to deliver positive local economic, social and environmental outcomes for the community and local businesses.

Key components of the design include:

  • Improved active transport options supporting the health and well-being of the community.
  • Natural and environmental design features, which seek to connect buildings and people more closely with nature.
  • Improved quality of shared community spaces, increasing opportunities for diverse uses of the street space along Malop Street.

You can explore the designs on an interactive map and provide your feedback via an online survey until midnight 6 March 2022.

There is also an information session on Tuesday 1 March at 6pm, registration is required here.

The feedback provided will be used to refine the Green Spine Project plans for Blocks 3 to 6. This includes ways to minimise the impact on the community and residents during construction.

The Green Spine Project is being delivered as part of the $500 million Geelong City Deal, a collaborative plan to transform Geelong and the Great Ocean Road by the Australian and Victorian Governments, and the City of Greater Geelong through the Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan.
