Fogarty Avenue closures

There will be a series of road closures of Fogarty Avenue in Yarraville and The Avenue in Spotswood over the coming months.

These two linked streets provide a popular connection for bike riders under the West Gate Freeway to connect the two suburbs, and more recently as a by-pass of the closed section of the Federation Trail which will be rebuilt as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

However, now that the new bridge across the freeway at Muir Street is now open, riders will be able to cross the freeway during any closures.

Details of the closure dates are available here.

The interruptions are due to:
  • Building the new walking and cycling path along Fogarty Avenue.
  • Strengthening the bridges over Williamstown Road and the Newport rail line.
  • Installing new noise walls.
  • Ongoing works near Fogarty Avenue including electrical freeway cabling and sensors, fire hydrant crossings, drainage, kerbing, and re-surfacing of the road, between March and mid-2022.
  • Completion of less disruptive works along freeway verges, and at the end of streets leading up to the freeway including landscaping, kerbing, walking and cycling paths, barriers, drainage and asphalting between March 2022 and mid-2023.
