New feature for Darebin Creek Trail

The Darebin Creek Trail is to get a new lookout and fresh area as part of the new road bridge and bike underpass at Child’s Road in Mill Park.

The project is building a new rest area on the southern side of the new Darebin Creek bridge where the new walking and cycling path will connect to the Darebin Creek Trail.

To celebrate the cultural heritage of the area there will be an Aboriginal mosaic pavement alongside the interpretive signage.

The new open area will include:
  • a bike repair station
  • native trees
  • seating
  • a drinking fountain and dog water bowl

reuse of recycled timbers and rocks removed as part of the road project construction

The construction of the Darebin Creek Lookout will start in mid-2022 and it is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

The project is seeking feedback on the Indigenous artwork design and tree native species to help shape the design of the Darebin Creek Lookout.

Structural works on the new Darebin Creek bridge have been completed and contractors are in the process of building the road and installing the roadside barriers.

The new bridge should open to traffic by the end of March so work can start on upgrading the existing bridge.
