The installation of ridable sealed shoulders and other improvements on sections of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road continues in Tremont.
Between Janiesleigh Road and Churchill Drive the Department of Transport has built a new 1.5 sealed shoulder along the road, with the final surface layer of asphalt due any day.
Before the shoulder is opened to riders, crews will be installing new drainage pits to help better manage the flow of storm water, and adding new line marking.
Work on two new bus stops near Olivette Avenue, with new shelters, pedestrian fencing and lighting is expected to start in April.
Meanwhile at Sassafras/Ferny Creek between One Tree Hill Road and The Crescent new drainage and a new retaining wall has been installed near Sherbrooke Community School.
To create the new shoulders sections of Mount Dandenong Tourist Road have been widened by excavating soil, levelling the ground and placing layers of asphalt material to help build a strong road foundation.
In the coming weeks asphalt resurfacing works to provide a smoother surface and add new line marking to create a road shoulder.
Work will also start the construction of the new rest areas near One Tree Hill Road and The Crescent, and make bus stop improvements near Hilton Road and The Crescent.
This project is expected to be complete in April 2022, if the weather permits.
