La Trobe Street night works update

Riders who use the La Trobe Street bike route in the evenings and through the night will encounter road closures during May and June.

Greater Western Water is undertaking investigations for a major sewer project along a section of Elizabeth Street later this year.

As part of the design work contractors are confirming the location of underground assets beneath La Trobe Street gustiest of the intersection with Elizabeth Street.

Work is scheduled to occur during May and June 2022 and is expected to take around five nights in each location: 7.30am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday and 6.30pm to 2.30am, Monday to Wednesday nights.

La Trobe Street will be closed to through traffic just west of Elizabeth Street for around five nights, one side of the road at a time.

Traffic management and local detours will be in place to ensure pedestrians, bike riders and vehicles are able to move safely around the area.

The outer eastbound lane on La Trobe Street west of Elizabeth Street may remain closed during the day. Traffic will be maintained via the inner eastbound lane.

During work hours, there will be brief holds of traffic at the intersection of La Trobe and Elizabeth streets while construction vehicles enter and exit the site.

Construction of the main project is expected to begin from mid-2022 and completed in early 2023.

Further information about any impacts to CBD bike routes will be provided closer to that time.
