E-bike-sharing company Neuron has landed in Sydney this week, deploying 250 of its orange two-wheelers for hire across the CBD and eastern suburbs.
The company is already running services across Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Darwin and Brisbane, with Sydney being the final capital city to partake in its mobility hire blitz.
The e-bikes come with attached helmets and the ability to share your journeys with friends via smartphone app.
The e-bikes are also integrated with Google Maps, which allows users to find the nearest device and plan their route. All purchases are made through the Neuron app, which involves a $1 unlocking fee and from there its 45 cents per minute of your journey.
Neuron have also announced a Concession Pass program, which would provide up to 50% off weekly and monthly passes. Concession Pass holders will have unlimited rides for 90 minutes each day, and with no additional unlocking fees. Concession Passes are available to anyone with a valid concession from an existing government support program.
The launch of e-bike hire in Sydney is a nice opportunity to enhance the liveability of the city, as well as assist commuters with their ‘last mile’ journeys. And if there is a significant uptake in people riding, there is the potential for more investment in active travel networks to allow more people to move around safely without cars.
