Back on your Bike rolls through Devonport

Our free Back on your Bike sessions are still active despite the winter chills settling in, with Glenorchy due to be delivered in early June followed by Devonport 16–18 June.

Back on your Bike is designed for people who may not have ridden for a while and want a skills refresher to give them the confidence to start riding again.

The Devonport sessions are:

  • Market Square: 16 June, 12–1.30 pm, Fri 17 June 10–11.30am
  • Meercroft Park: 16 June, 2–3.30 pm
  • East Devonport: 17 June, 12–1.30 pm
  • Ambleside: 18 June, 10–11.30 am

We are able to offer the Back on your Bike program thanks to a grant from Healthy Tasmania: www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/back-on-your-bike

Kingborough Whitewater Track work & barrier removal

Kingborough Council has started work on widening and sealing the Whitewater Creek Track from Summerleas Road to the Southern Outlet.

The new section of track will be 3 metres wide and sealed in concrete so it can be used year-round by people wanting to avoid muddy rides. The council has bought some sections of land to allow them to create a consistent width along the track.

The access tracks are also being upgraded (the sections shown in blue on the map) and work began late last month and is expected to be finished by mid August.

The council has also removed a painful barrier in one of the short paths to the track so now any bike, pram and wheelchair user can get through.

Intercity Cycleway entrance back to normal

The great chicane news keeps coming this week with City of Hobart putting the old barrier setup at the start of the Intercity Cycleway back in place.

If you see cars being driven down onto the path and parking at the side, please take a photo and send to council so they can deal with problem drivers endangering path users.

Thanks to staff for acting quickly to fix this issue so we can all ride freely again!

Orford shared trails to be widened, lengthened

The Tasmanian Government and Glamorgan Spring Bay Council have released a master plan for the Orford foreshore which proposes widening and adding to some of the shared trails.

The plan proposes shared path widths of 2 metres with gravel surfaces and lengthening the trail in places, including a connection from Our Park to the town centre and Raspins Beach to the Prosser Bridge.

You can have your say on plans for the area before 28 June via the council’s website: https://gsbc.tas.gov.au/community-projects/community-consultation/

Central Coast pathway update

We’re loving the photo updates from Central Coast Council on the shared pathway progress between Sulphur Creek and Penguin.

The latest news is that 3.5 km has been asphalted at Preservation Beach and Mid-Way Point and work is underway to build a new pathway along Hogarth Road that will connect to the existing path along Bass Highway through Heybridge.

You can see the progress of the path construction at https://www.centralcoast.tas.gov.au/shared-pathway-sulphur-creek-to-penguin/
