New funding for Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link

The NSW Government have earmarked $65 million of the state budget to build the eastern portion of Stage 2 of the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL).

The Stage 2 eastern portion comprises a shared cycle-pedestrian path from Jackson Avenue, Miranda to Gannons Road, Caringbah, with construction scheduled to commence in early 2023.

The western portion, however, is yet to be determined. A previously proposed route option along Oak Road, Flora Street and Kingsway to Miranda has been ruled out based on community feedback.

Instead, Transport for NSW are revising the route west of Sylvania Road by looking at available streets and urban reserves south of the rail corridor, as proposed by Sutherland Shire Council. They are also investigating appropriate routes through Miranda from Sylvania Road to Jackson Avenue.

Cronulla MP and Attorney-General Mark Speakman, commenting in the Sutherland Shire Leader, said "it's important we get this critical piece of local infrastructure right, so I'm pleased Transport for NSW (TfNSW) will now look at different options for the western component".

It is anticipated that the entire SCATL will be in place by the end of 2025.
