The Level Crossing Removals Project in Preston continues with more road closures this month that will impact bike riders through the precinct.
The 4 level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road have been removed but the rail bridges overhead are only partially complete, with construction underway on the second bridge and new stations at Bell and Preston.
As works continue around the clock until September, there will be road closures at the level crossings on Cramer Street, Murray Road and Regent Street.
Subject to weather and the usual project caveats, the closures are:
Cramer Street:
- 9 pm Sunday 31 July to 6 am Wednesday 3 August
- 9 pm Sunday 14 August to 6 am Wednesday 17 August.
Murray Road:
- 9 pm Friday 5 August to 7 am Thursday 11 August
Regent Street:
- 7 am Saturday 27 August to 7 am Sunday 28 August
Clinch Avenue/Murray Road intersection:
- Fully closed from Thursday 28 July until 7 pm Monday 11 August
Preston Market northern exit (Murray Road):
- Fully closed from Thursday 28 July until 7 pm Monday 11 August
There will also be additional lane closures and stop/go arrangements on Bell Street, Murray Road and St Georges Road.
Pedestrian crossings outside stations may also be closed at times for works.
Traffic management will be in place to help you move around the area.
The works include:
- day and night works at both Bell and Preston stations to complete the station buildings and rail bridge
- day and some night works to build the track on the Mernda-bound rail bridge
- road resurfacing works on Murray Road
- landscaping across the alignment
- drainage works.
