The Swanston Street bike lane at the City Square underground station construction site will close again for about a week from next Wednesday.
It will be closed the following day on Thursday 4 August, but open on Friday 5 August.
It will then be closed for the next three days – Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 6–8 August.
The southbound lane between Collins Street and Little Collins Street will be closed to bikes to enable the construction of the second crane above the Swanston Street footpath.
Detours will be in place as for the previous closure, with improvements.
These dates are subject to change due to weather or on-site delays.
What goes up must come down, so at some point in the future these cranes will be removed, which will mean further lane closures.
There will be signage further back on Swanston Street to alert riders to the closure at Collins Street and to suggest taking alternative routes.
In the first instance, riders coming into the city along Swanston Street have the option of using La Trobe Street and taking advantage of the separated lanes to detour east or west.
If detouring west you would continue to William Street and then head south, crossing the Yarra at Queens Bridge.
If detouring east, you would continue to Exhibition Street and then head south to Flinders Lane which would get you back to Swanston Street beyond the road closure.
If you are already downstream of La Trobe Street you can turn left at Collins, or right, using the specially installed hook-turn box.
You can also use the westbound 'little' streets.
For riders who use Collins Street you will not be able to turn left at Swanston, but you will still be able to continue westbound. You may prefer to turn off at Exhibition Street, either south-, or northbound, where you can take advantage of a new hook-turn box.
Riders should follow the directions of traffic controllers, who have legal authority to control traffic at the worksite.
