A major, concentrated burst of construction around the Millers Road connection with the West Gate Freeway in Altona North–Brooklyn will have a major impact on traffic over the coming month.
A number of bike routes will be impacted by the closures and detours, but riders will be able to connect under the freeway at Millers Road by walking their bikes for a short distance on the pedestrian paths, which will remain open.
During this period the new, permanent bike facilities on Millers Road under the freeway will be constructed.
Bikes using the Federation Trail via the Blackshaws Road detour will have access but should be conscious of additional traffic on Blackshaws as a result of other traffic detours.
Major construction works on the Millers Road–West Gate Freeway interchange start from 9 pm, Friday 19 August as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project.
For drivers, the following closures in place from 19 August – 17 September:
• Ramp closure: Millers Road inbound entry ramp to the West Gate Freeway
There will be a 24/7 full closure of Millers Road inbound entry ramp.
Detour: Via Geelong Road–Blackshaws Road, Grieve Parade and West Gate Freeway inbound.
• Lane closure: Millers Road southbound underneath the West Gate Freeway
There will be a 24/7 lane closure on Millers Road southbound underneath the West Gate Freeway.
Right turns onto the outbound entry ramp are permitted during this lane closure.
The second phase of work will begin 17 September until 5 am, Monday 24 October. Further information about the works can be found here.
