30 year Hobart plan approved

The state government and greater Hobart councils have released a 30 year plan today, but the detailed cycling network map is not included.

The plan includes the important goal of improving the cycling network for transport but the Greater Hobart Commuter Cycling Network map is still sitting in City Deal processes, so is not included in the plan.

Molle and Collins streets lights turned on
The City of Hobart turned on the lights at the Molle and Collins streets intersection on Monday morning and we couldn't wait to try them out!

We are happy to report that you don't have to wait long at all for your turn, whether you are in a car, on a bike, scooter or foot.

The only issue we saw arise is that cars turning right into Molle from Collins weren't always giving way properly to people crossing at the pedestrian lights, so keep your eyes open for drivers still learning about the new intersection.

Signal boxes art opportunity up for grabs

Now the lights are on at the corner of Molle and Collins Street, someone needs to paint the signal box!

The City of Hobart is looking for artists or community groups to paint the signal box for a fee of $440.

There are 11 other boxes across the city also in need of a colour burst so if you’re interested apply before 22 September at www.urbansmartprojects.com/signal-box-hobart-expression-of-interest

Check on council candidate bike positions

As we edge closer to the start of council election voting, we are starting to get more candidate statements up on our website.

We have set up a page where you can see what each candidate pledges to do to make it easier to ride a bike if they are elected. All candidates will be announced on 20 September and voting starts on 3 October.

If you know a candidate who supports people riding, ask them to send their statement to tasoffice@bicyclenetwork.com.au.
