The Footscray Road trail will close this Friday 11 November at 10am and remain closed over the weekend.
This means that bike commuters who travel to work on Friday along Footscray Road will have to switch to Dynon Road for the evening trip.
Footscray Road will be fully closed during this period while massive steel beams are installed as part of the west Gate Tunnel project.
These beams will have a role on supporting the elevated Veloway that will carry bikes to and from the city.
The closure is between Linfox Gate and Appleton Dock Road and will be in place from 10am Friday 11 November until 5am Monday 14 November.
The bike detours will effectively be between the two waterways, the Maribyrnong in the west and the Moonee Ponds Creek at the city end.
If you are riding to or from the west over the weekend need to use Dynon Road via the Moon Ponds Creek or via Lloyd and Arden Street.
Note that Footscray Road will be closed also to motor traffic and although motor vehicles will have their own detours, expect additional congestion.
