Kosciuszko MTB track opens

The final 1.5km of a new mountain bike track has opened in the Kosciuszko National Park, creating an almost 40km link between Thredbo village and the Thredbo River picnic area.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Area Manager Anthony Evans said the new $9.8 million track would capitalise on the role of national parks in driving regional tourism and increasing the bike tourism market.

“The completed Thredbo Valley Track offers mountain-biking enthusiasts 37.5 kilometres of trails through stunning sub-alpine landscapes,” Mr Evans said.

“This track features beginner-friendly stretches as well as technical and challenging options for more advanced mountain-bike riders.

“Completion of this final section also provides improved access for walkers and fishers who can enjoy views of the scenic Thredbo River, spanning 300m from an engineered, elevated platform near the picnic area.”

The Thredbo Valley Track was funded by the NSW Government and will connect with the proposed Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail Project, providing a significant link to Creel Bay.

Snowy Valleys Council has drafted a Regional Tracks and Trails Masterplan that identifies projects worth $10 million for additional funding. A portion of the proposed Batlow to Tumut rail trail – running 4k from Batlow to Wybalena – is among its priorities, as is creating a Waterfall Drive trail encompassing the Adelong Falls.

The council is seeking public comment on its masterplan. You can participate here.
