A tram network upgrade on Gisborne Street in East Melbourne will disrupt bike traffic in and out of the city until next month.
The tram tracks on Gisborne Street between Victoria Parade and Macarthur Street have reached the end of their life and are being replaced.
Early works are underway now and major works will kick in on Friday, 24 February and continue until Friday, 3 March.
Much of the early work is overnight, however riders may encounter changed road conditions during the day.
The major works will be much more disruptive and will be underway 24 hours each day, involving excavation of road surface and tram tracks and installation of new tracks and renewal of power and poles.
The following image includes information on a temporary detour, which requires riders to walk their bikes around site.
Gisborne Street will be closed from Victoria Parade to Macarthur Street.
The intersection of Gisborne and Albert streets will be closed to east-west traffic.
The intersection of Gisborne Street and Cathedral Place will be closed.
This will disrupt the bike routes on Albert Street, Napier Street, and Collins Street.
Once the major works are complete there will be some close out works. This work may include pole installation and removal, permanent line-markings and any remedial work picked up post major works.
