Brunswick Velodrome Pump Track edges forward

Plans are progressing on a world-class pump track within the Brunswick Velodrome and a draft design is now open for community feedback.

Brunswick Cycling Club was awarded a Merri-bek City Council design grant for the infield upgrade to the velodrome in 2021, kickstarting initial community consultation.

This included letterbox drops to local residents, a public forum, online input on draft designs and engagement with schools and other users of the Brunswick Velodrome facility.

Features identified as important to users of the pump track and the broader community included water taps, shaded rest areas, seating for carers of children, separate tracks for novice and experienced users, ramps for accomplished riders to safely pass others and soft-landing surfaces within and immediately surrounding the track.

This feedback was included in a draft concept plan designed to challenge riders of all skill levels and divided into 3 zones: a pump track with jump lines, a central plaza and a cyclocross and mountain bike skills area.

For those interested to learn more, a pop-up information session will take place at the Brunswick Velodrome on Sunday 19 March from 9:00–11:30am. Representatives from the Brunswick Cycling Club and Merri-bek Council will be in attendance.

Community feedback on the proposed pump track design is invited via an online survey up until 11:59pm, Friday 14 April.

Merri-bek City Council hopes to have the concept plan finalised by mid-2023. The timeline of the project will be determined by budget allocation and external grants.
