Monash University’s Sustainable Mobility and Safety Research team is developing new ways of detecting near-misses using video data.
The project aims to develop technology that can be deployed across Australia to capture crowd-sourced data on near-misses, and increase understanding of the situations that cause bike riders to feel unsafe.
The research team is seeking participants in Victoria to contribute to the study.
Participation involves completing a pre-ride survey and, if selected, attaching a smartphone provided by Monash University to your bike to capture normal riding data over a one-week period.
The project also aims to understand user experiences as people ride. Participants will be asked to wear a heart-rate monitor so the researchers can measure heart rate variability, which is a physiological measure of stress.
