Melbourne Airport Rail is preparing for major track works through Albion and Sunshine which will result in some bike trail detours this year.
The pedestrian and cycling path over Anderson Road will be closed from 12 April until 2025.
A southern and northern bike and pedestrian detour will be in place, see map.
There will be an increase in vehicles using Talmage Street and King Edward Avenue to enter and exit the construction site.
Work activities are 7:00am to 6:00pm, Mondays to Fridays and 7:00am to 1:00pm, Saturdays.
The project will build two new rail bridges and a new shared path over Anderson Road.
Initial works involve:
-
Removing light poles from the site area and the southern side of the shared use path
-
Non-destructive digging (NDD) to locate underground services in the area
-
Building a driveway for vehicles to access the site
-
Building a large concrete slab to protect underground services. This slab will ensure the area is safe whilst heavy machinery is used to demolish and rebuild the bridges
-
The concrete slab will be poured at the end of April and will continue to set until June in order to reach full strength
-
Removing trees and vegetation on both sides of Anderson Road.
Works include the use of excavators, a scissor lift, elevated work platform, wood chipper, NDD truck, concrete truck, workers with hand tools and other construction machinery.
