Celebrating inclusivity on IDAHOBIT Day 2023

On Wednesday 17 May,  we joined the LGBTQI+ community and millions around the world to celebrate IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia) Day.

The day marks the anniversary of the World Health Organisation's removal of homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases in 1990.

It allows us to stand with the LGBTQI+ community to celebrate the progress made towards a more inclusive and equal society. It is also a chance to consider the work still to be done in creating a world free of discrimination, where everyone feels valued and respected.

In recognition of IDAHOBIT Day 2023, Bicycle Network would like to celebrate with the thousands of LGBTQI+ Australians who are part of our membership base, and those spread across the nation's bike riding community.

The day is also an opportunity to recognise the important work of LGBTQI+ focused bike user groups who champion inclusivity and equality:

Melburn Durt: A community of women (cis & trans)/trans men/gender non-conforming folk out to encourage the exploration of off-road paths and trails though inclusive rides.

Dicycles On Bicycles: Sydney's first and only bike riding group for gay women/lesbians, offering welcoming rides for people of all abilities.

Bent Kranks: A bike club created for the gay and lesbian community of Melbourne, offering inclusive rides mostly on paths, rail trails and tracks away from busy city streets.

Sydney Spokes: A bike club for LGBTI+ people in Sydney offering rides and events for people of all levels of fitness and experience.

Brisbane Rainbow Cyclists: A LGBTI+ social bike riding club in Brisbane that welcomes riders old and new.

Perth LGBTI+ Cycling Group: An online social cycling club bringing together members of the LGBTI+ community.

Inclusivity is one of Bicycle Network's core values, and we endeavour to create an environment where every one is free to be themselves each and every day. To all the other bike clubs, groups and organisations that promote these values, we are proud to stand with you and the LGBTI+ community.
