Beaconsfield bike path designs revealed

Designs for a road bridge over the railway line and riding and walking connections at the new Brunt Road bridge at Beaconsfield in Melbourne’s east have been revealed.

The project will replace the level crossing and works, which will include new lighting and extensive native planting of more than 50,000 trees, plants, shrubs and grasses, are due to begin in coming weeks.

The bridge will be screened in natural, earthy tones to reflect the area’s history as a brick-producing region.

The Brunt Road bridge is one of 22 level crossings being removed on the Pakenham Line.

When the Metro Tunnel is complete and bigger trains and high-capacity signalling are installed, up to 121,000 extra peak hour passengers will be able to travel on the Pakenham Line each week.
