Maroondah to reset bike plan clock

Riders in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs will get a rare opportunity to shape their riding environment as the City of Maroondah plans a network across the municipality.

It's been 20 years since the existing network plan was released, and riders in the east are sure to have plenty of ideas for updates.

You can see the current network here.

Ticking the checkboxes shows some attractive trails, but Bicycle Network believes the bike lanes proposed are sparse.

So, here’s your chance to provide your ideas about how the network could become denser and better connected.

"It is now time to review and update our Bicycle Network Plan to ensure it complements developments in land use and transport policy, neighbouring bicycle networks and cycling design guidelines and standards," the council says.

"To inform our initial planning and review, we want to know and understand how the Maroondah community and visitors to the area use the network and their experience of it.

"This first round of engagement provides two ways to share your experience, insights and ideas about the network - an online interactive map and online survey. There will also be on site intercept surveys taking place over the consultation period.”

Contribute to the issues interactive map by "dropping a pin" and tell the council your experience of cycling, walking or running in this area, particularly whether you view a spot as 'safe' or 'unsafe’.

The consultation closes on Friday 18 August 2023.
